• Lecture content is available on-demand from master instructors who are experts in the specific content area. Watch those videos when it's convenient for you in advance of the training, and go back and review them at any point afterwards.
• They will also be searchable! No more advancing and rewinding video trying to find the exact spot you wanted to review.
• Just as in our in-person training, you will be able to try sample workouts for yourself and you will also get technique coaching from a master instructor with decades of experience coaching rowing!

• We will use a combination of Zoom conferencing tools: regular Zoom for big-group teaching and discussion, and Zoom breakout rooms for small groups of no more than 6 participants. There you will get technique review plus opportunities to go deep on your questions with a master instructor who's been assigned to your small group.
• The live part of the training will be held over two half-days beginning at 10 am ET Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31, in sessions no longer than 4 hours.
• This will give you time to:

a) absorb the information from one day to the next;

b) come back and get your questions answered live by the master instructors, and

c) have only a limited period of time each day that you need to dedicate to being online.

You will also be moving! We are collaborating with online education experts to make sure that this course is engaging and educational in both the on-demand and live sessions.

For the live portions, yes. You will be rowing and have the opportunity to get coaching from a master instructor with decades of experience teaching people to row and row better.

Of course! Lots of people go through the course to improve their personal rowing skills. Teaching isn’t necessarily their end goal, and that’s totally fine. We spend a lot of time helping people dial in their personal technique. Everyone who attends the course gets some individual coaching. Our goal is to ensure all attendees leave better rowers than they came.

Yes! You’ll get .6 CECs from the American Council on Exercise (ACE) for taking the one-day course, and another .3 once you pass the certification. AFAA will give you 3 CEUs for the Basic Course. You can also submit ACE CECs for continuing education credits with other fitness organizations such as NASM.

Almost! However, there’s one more step afterwards: the home-study.

• The first part of the home study is a multiple-choice, open-book take-home exam.
• The second part is a brief video of you teaching your “learn-to-row class,” in whatever capacity you plan to do that with students, members or clients.

There are lots of ways to get this done, and it is all explained during the Basic Course and in our manual. We give you lots of time to practice and get comfortable enough to record yourself teaching.

While we want you to have fun with this, we also believe the true test of someone ready to be certified is the ability to teach what they’ve learned. However, we are here to help you. It is our goal that everyone who completes the course and wants to be certified has what they need to complete that process.

You will have at least 6 months to send in the home-study portion of the certification. If in 6 months we are still having restrictions related to COVID-19 and you are unable to get this done, just let us know and we will give you an extension.

No problem. You’ll get a Certificate of Participation that can be used towards CEC credits, a massive amount of confidence, the skill to use rowing with clients, and our undying gratitude for wanting to be a better rower yourself.

Yes! On-water rowing is a very different animal from group exercise on the erg. On-water rowers are often (although not always) good indoor rowers. However, they are usually missing the training needed to use the rowing machine as a vehicle for fun and fitness, in a group exercise setting.

During group exercise classes, or with 1:1 clients, rowing is all about having fun on the erg. Good technique is definitely critical, but if you can’t deliver a class or program that: motivates people, makes them feel good, and allows them to have fun while getting results, you’ll have a hard time succeeding as an indoor instructor or personal trainer.

Yes! Rowing for a long time yourself isn’t the same as knowing how to teach other people to row well. Additionally, being a good rower without any training does not mean you are able to identify and correct errors of your own, or your clients’ errors. A large portion of the course is spent teaching you all of those things.

No, all we ask is that you review the videos in advance as requested. We do not expect this to be burdensome

In addition to reviewing the pre-training videos, you will need to submit a short video of you rowing from the side so we can assess your technique starting point. This doesn't need to be fancy! Phone video is fine as long as we can see you, and 30 seconds to a minute is all we need. None of the video will be shared outside of the training.

1.  Course registrations are nonrefundable.  Should UCanRow2 cancel the training you may choose to receive a full refund or move to another date at no additional cost.  Registrations must be used within the same calendar year or they will be forfeited.

2.  You may change your registration one time at no additional cost, provided you make the request at least 14 days before the course date.  Registrations changed after that date are subject to a $100 rescheduling fee.  Participants may also transfer the registration for their original date to someone else at no additional fee.

3.  All registrants must attend the entire course in order to be eligible to receive a course completion certificate and continuing education credits.  No refunds or credits will be issued to any registrant who misses any part of the day.

For ACE you will get .6 for the training day and .3 when you complete the certification process.

For NASM it's .8 and .3, for AFAA 8 and 3 CEUs.
